Rebecca Leber is an award-winning journalist who has covered climate change and energy politics for more than a decade. Her investigations into fossil fuel influence have exposed government corruption and launched new federal oversight.

In 2023, Covering Climate Now recognized her reporting that “puts peoples’ everyday lives first and often exposes surprising cracks in systems and best-laid plans… Leber’s work is at once authoritative and accessible.” Her work on gas stoves has been cited by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and by local and national climate regulators.

Rebecca has worked as a senior reporter at Vox, a reporter for Mother Jones magazine, an editor for Grist, and a writer for the New Republic. She’s contributed features, profiles, and investigations, and plotted out editorial priorities for Climate Desk, a 16-outlet media partnership run out of Mother Jones.

In addition to her day job as a writer and reporter, Rebecca serves as vice president on the Board of Directors for the Society of Environmental Journalists. She regularly appears as a guest on TV, podcasts, and radio, collaborating with 99 Percent Invisible and On the Media on recent episodes.

Rebecca lives in Washington, D.C. Here’s how to contact.
